Welcome to Rock Creek Family Medicine

Rock Creek Family Medicine, P.C. was established in December of 2004 by Dr. Martin W. Sowards, DO and his wife, Lorna. In 2008 they designed and built the clinic, Rock Creek Family Medicine, which they have enjoyed for more than 13 years

Meet Our Staff

Martin W. Sowards, D.O.

Martin Sowards is a native of the San Luis Valley and a graduate of Adams State College.  He obtained his medical degree at University of North Texas Health Science Center- Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX.  His internship and first year of residency was at HealthOne Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency in Aurora, CO.  He completed his last year of residency in Des Moines, IA at Des Moines General Hospital in their Family Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Martin Sowards has

years of experience in Family Medicine. He has a special interest in pediatrics and dermatology. Licensed in the state of Colorado, he is board certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. He is also a member of the American Osteopathic Association and Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine.

 

Dr. Martin Sowards enjoys spending time with his wife, Lorna, and their 5 children, 3 sons-in-law and 8 grandchildren.  When not at the clinic or with family, Dr. Sowards can be found fly-fishing.

Diana Medina, PA

Diana Medina, PA has been a certified Physician Assistant since 1986.  She is a graduate from the Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  She spent her first twenty years primarily practicing pediatric medicine.  She joined the team at Rock Creek Family Medicine in 2008 now practicing family medicine.  She also has training through the Upledger Institute in CranioSacral Therapy and tries to incorporate this into her practice.  

When Diana is not working at the clinic she is teaching with the Grof Transpersonal Training Institute which is an international training program in Transpersonal Psychology and Holotropic Breathwork.  

Ms. Medina offers a broad experience and a holistic view of health and well being for those who come to Rock Creek Family Medicine

Kim Shawcroft, CCMA

Kim Shawcroft is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant and a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.

Kim was born in Pueblo, Colorado and graduated from Pueblo County High School. She is married to Bryon Shawcroft and they have 2 children, Nicolle and Marcus.

While in Pueblo, Kim worked as a Dispatcher and Office Assistant for Middelkamp Ambulance, a Billing Clerk at Parkview Hospital, and a Phlebotomist and Billing Clerk for Southern Colorado Labs.

Kim and her family moved to Alamosa, CO in 1998, where Kim began working as a Special Needs Aide for BOCES/Alamosa Schools, then a Billing Clerk and Lab Aide for SLV Health. She also spent a small time working as an Insurance Agent at Dell’s Insurance.

Kim has been employed by Rock Creek Family Medicine, P.C. for 12 years and we are blessed to have her expertise and hard work.
